always, sometimes, generally, usually, ever, never, seldom, often, daily, etc

a. Mid position (before,the verb)

I always get up early. (1)
I sometimes have to get up early? (2)
I sometimes used to get up early? (3)

As seen in the examples above, adverbs of frequency are said before the verb (1) and before have to (2) and used to (3). Always (4) and ever (5) are used after not in negative sentences. Sometimes is used before not(6). Other adverbs of frequency can be said before(7) or after (8) the helping verb in negative statements. When there are two or more helping verbs in the sentence, it is said after the first one(9). In questionsi it is used before the main verb(10)


b. Adverbs of frequency are said after the verb ‘to be’ (am,are,is,was,were)

She is always respectful.
He was usually late for school.

c. Adverbs of frequency are said before the helping verb in short answers.

Do you ever go to the cinema?
Yes, I often do.
No, I seldom do.

2. Front position:
a. Adverbs of frequency are said at the beginning of a sentence for emphasis.

Always she is very jealous of her husband.
Seldom do I watch football matches on TV.

b. Adverbs of frequency are said at the beginning of commands.

Always be honest.
Never play on the road.

3. End position: Adverbs of definite frequency are normally said at the end of a sentence but they cant be said before the verb or at the beginning of a sentence.
newspapers     are   daily
some magazines       weekly

rents          are  monthly
                  yearly

4. End or front position : Adverbs of frequency in a group are said at the beginning or at the end of a sentence.

He goes to the cinema every Sunday.
They eat three times a day.

Again and again he was examined.
Once a day you should take a spoonful of this syrup.
